Well, we visited the actual State Fair a couple of weeks ago...and now we went to an Old Fashioned 1870's County Fair to compare the two. We acted like we were going back in time...
Off to see the wizard!
Her's the old carpenter shop where it only took 53 whacks to pound in one nail. That hammer was heavy!
Do you call this the organ grinder? I wish he would have had a monkey on his shoulder...but the music attracted the kids from all around. They just stared...Then they started to dance, it was so cute.
The game tent - bean bag tosses, rope rings to toss on the bottles, target tosses.
The 1870's newspaper printer. Avery got to create his own fair ticket by turning the press. Now here's something interesting - when I was little my mom worked at a newspaper. She actually used this same 'technology' with typesetting each individual letter on every page and printing the paper this old fashioned way. Um...that was in the 1980's! Here's to you, gramma Susie.
Now we are back home, working on the worksheets they provided to learn about the day. Comparing to the modern State Fair...learning about the different ways people have fun today and back then.
