The little chef, mixing up flour, water, and salt to make the "ocean floor". He calls me his assistant, and speaks in a french accent asking me to do things. "Assistant! Pour some more water in here please."..."Assistant! Help me pour this in the pan." (we watched the movie Ratatoulle one too many times I think)
Since we are going to Hawaii soon, we are learning what oceans are. We made an ocean floor, and poured blue jello over it so he could see that continents and islands are just a small piece of the land on earth. We also learned that continents are not floating islands (um...and that Pangeia could never have happened.)
This goes right along with our study of Genesis about God creating the earth.
We are also reading the Swiss Family Robinson to learn about oceans, and we watched the movie together. It's about a family who gets shipwrecked and lives on an island, making everything they need. They live in this amazing tree house, and Avery is asking if we can build one of those in Hawaii and live there. Now that's an idea!
