With two weeks to go until Kindergarten starts at the public school...we've decided to send our little guy to private school instead. We've done a lot of research on this school, and I'm so excited about it! Let me tell you about it...
This private school offers personalized attention and supplemented learning that goes at his pace, not at the pace of the entire class which may hinder his progress. Not only will he be doing some of the traditional curriculum learning, this school offers field trips and projects almost every day to expose the kids to hands-on learning that goes along with the curriculum. The little guy has the ability now to excel in certain subjects that can move along faster, and take extra time in subjects that he is not quite as adept in. And he will be around kids not only in his own age group, but kids of all ages. They come from different neighborhoods and backgrounds, so he will get a better exposure to diversity than being at a public school surrounded by kids born the same year (no matter what level they are at) and from the same area. He'll be in extra curricular classes such as swimming, soccer, basketball, zoology, cooking, anthropology, music, and much more. That's just in Kindergarten.
The greatest thing about this school is that every subject is centered around God. Enough with taking God out of schools. That is precisely where He belongs, front and center. That's what I love most about this school, and second is the positive socialization going on. Somehow this school has managed to take out negative peer pressure. Everyone is encouraged to learn as much as they can and want to, without fear of being labeled or picked on.
And the icing on the cake is that we will never have to sacrifice valuable family time to cater to the school's stringent schedule, or do hours of homework. I can't wait - the first day of school is August 24th, and he is so excited to start!
If you are wondering where this school is, it's actually in our house. Chris and I are the teachers. We are following 3 million people currently in the US who are doing this very same thing, and the outcomes are encouraging. Statistically he'll have a better chance of testing years ahead of his peers, having better life skills, and a better chance of going to college & getting accepted.
I hope to have your support and prayers. We've heard all the objections to homeschooling, and we've researched them all and are at peace more than ever with our decision. Keep watching this blog for updates on school.
