We met with a homeschooling group tonight for the first time, mingled over hamburgers and hotdogs while the 20 or so kids played together. Field trips were planned, and curriculum was discussed. We all share a passion for our children and a love for God...what better group to belong to! I met with another lady who works full time while homeschooling a first grader and a high schooler with success (though little sleep). I can do this...I know I can.
The woman who spoke at a seminar this morning talked about homeschooling for the past 18 years, her oldest all the way through her bachelors degree. Her fourth grader is testing at 10th grade levels. Her first grader is learning English, Greek, and Latin. Whoah there! Let's not get that excited...she may very well be super woman, I thought I saw her cape showing from underneath her collar. But she did inspire me to look into Latin...which I am now convinced I will start teaching next year (although I've never even seen it, but I'll learn. Yey!)
The more I look into homeschooling, the more excited I get about teaching this little guy. I have found so much free curriculum online and at the library that I could almost get him through high school for free. But of course I can never resist all the neat, brightly colored supplies and tools at Perfect Peace (Christian bookstore / teaching resource store), so I'm sure I won't get off that cheaply.
